AMD Has An Amazing Upgrade For Some Big Navi GPUs in Advanced Graphics Driver

With its new graphics driver, AMD made several improvements. It involves making it easier to play local co-op games from afar. Unannounced improvements to improve the energy efficiency of some RX 6000 series GPUs were reportedly made.

According to Tech PowerUp’s checks, this is the scenario. In certain cases, the Adrenalin 21.4.1 driver reduces power consumption for certain Big Navi graphics cards, according to these checks. The recorded power-efficiency benefits, on the other hand, have resulted in a reduction in the wattage consumed when the GPU is idle. As a result, a relatively cool and quieter running card can be expected.

On the RX 6700 XT, RX 6800, RX 6800 XT, and RX 6900 XT GPUs, Tech PowerUp contrasted AMD’s latest 21.4.1 driver to the previous version 21.3.2. The site discovered that when the 6700 XT was idle, it didn’t use any less power. The other GPUs reaped significant benefits. Among these advantages is a reduction in power consumption from just over 25W to around 5W.

That’s a big change! It’s worth noting that the 6700 XT was already consuming only about 5W. There was no improvement with the graphics card as a result of this. In media playback situations, further changes were made. The RX 6700 XT, on the other hand, remained approximately the same. The other GPUs’ power consumption dropped from around 50W to about 35W. That is, once again, a significant change. Those power consumption figures also fall short of Nvidia’s Ampere graphics cards.

Given that the 6700 XT uses about 5W for idling and 20W for media playback. The hypothesis put forward by Tech PowerUp is that AMD improved power efficiency with the release of that card. These have now been implemented throughout the RX 6000 line. This makes perfect sense, and it explains why the 6700 XT model hasn’t seen any significant improvements.
